Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

 

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation was established in Marmara University Hospital building located in Altunizade in the year of 1988, four years after Marmara University Faculty of Medicine founded in 1984 and started to provide PM&R specialization training in the same year. After the first head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Önder Kayhan, Prof. Dr. Gülsere11:52:10n Akyüz has been in charge between the years 2003-2012 and Prof. Dr. Hakan Gündüz has been continuing this duty since November 2012.

Marmara University Hospital provided service in its buildings located in Altunizade until September 2010, since then it moved to Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital in Pendik.

The department now has 8 faculty members and employs 5 specialist physicians, 4 Algology and Rheumatology Minor Research Assistants and 14 PM&R research assistants.

Our Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation consists of the department of Sport Medicine which was the first established department, the department of Algology established in January 2012 and the department of Rheumatology established in August 2015.

The Prosthetic and Orthotic Unit of our department which has been providing health service and training at Marmara University Goztepe Campus since 2000, has been continuing to provide health services at Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital since May 2015.

Our Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation was fully accredited by the Turkish PMR Accreditation Board in 2007 and by the PMR Section and Board of European Union of Medical Specialists (Union Européenne des Médecins Spécialistes-UEMS) in 2009 and the PMR Section and Board of UEMS accreditation was renewed in September 2014.
